Snowfall Hits Istanbul, Schools Closed For a Day

A cold front accompanied by snowfall has led to the closure of schools in Istanbul for a day, as announced by Governor Davut Gül. The decision, effective on Feb. 12, also grants administrative leave to disabled and pregnant employees in public institutions.

Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu advised residents to remain indoors if possible, warning of intense snowfall expected to begin overnight. “The snow will start in the early hours, primarily affecting the European side and western districts before moving eastward by noon,” he stated.

According to İmamoğlu, snowfall is forecasted to subside by Thursday, with clear skies anticipated by Friday. Meanwhile, municipal teams, comprising approximately 12,000 personnel and 3,375 vehicles, are on standby to manage the weather conditions.
