Trade Sales Volume Rises Annually but Declines Monthly; Retail Sales Show Growth

Turkey’s trade sales volume saw a 5.3% increase in January 2025 compared to the same period in 2024, reflecting steady growth in overall trade activity. However, within sectoral details, the sales volume for wholesale and retail trade, including motor vehicle and motorcycle repairs, contracted by 5.0% year-on-year.

Meanwhile, wholesale trade sales volume expanded by 4.1%, and retail trade sales volume surged by 12.5%, highlighting strong consumer demand in the retail sector.

On a monthly basis, trade sales volume declined by 4.1% in January 2025, signaling a slowdown compared to the previous month. The wholesale and retail trade, including motor vehicle and motorcycle repairs, recorded a 3.3% decline, while wholesale trade sales volume dropped by 6.7%. Despite this overall contraction, retail trade continued its upward trend, posting a 2.0% increase compared to December 2024.

This data suggests that while the trade sector demonstrated resilience over the past year, short-term fluctuations, particularly in wholesale trade and motor vehicle-related transactions, indicate a potential shift in economic activity.
