Breaking: Interior Ministry Authorizes Probe Into Ankara Municipality Over Concert Spending

ankara

The Turkish Ministry of Interior has officially authorized an investigation into the Ankara Metropolitan Municipality as part of a "concert investigation" examining public spending on cultural events.

Investigation Targets 33 Out of 130 Concerts

According to a statement from the Ankara Metropolitan Municipality, the probe focuses on service procurements related to 130 concerts held between 2021 and 2024.

“Inspectors had been reviewing cultural and artistic events for some time,” the municipality stated.

Following the review, investigators have recommended a formal investigation into 33 concerts, citing allegations of public financial damage.

What’s at Stake

The decision intensifies scrutiny over municipal expenditures and may have broader political implications, especially amid ongoing tensions between the central government and opposition-run city administrations like Ankara.

This latest development comes as several municipalities led by opposition parties face legal and financial investigations, raising questions about the politicization of audits and oversight mechanisms in Turkey.
