CHP Munich Union Strongly Supports Signature Campaign for Ekrem İmamoğlu’s Release and Early Elections

The signature campaign started by CHP Chairman Özgür Özel, calling for the release of CHP presidential candidate and Istanbul Metropolitan Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu and demanding early elections, has found strong support among Turkish citizens abroad, particularly in Germany.
Campaign Launched in Munich
CHP Munich Union President Gönül Fidan announced that the signature campaign kicked off in Munich on the same day as Turkey. The Union will be actively collecting signatures for a week, setting up stands in areas densely populated by the Turkish community.
Fidan stated:
“We started the signature campaign that our General President launched today from Munich. We welcome everyone who wants to support this democratic call to our stands. We believe that the campaign will spread to other cities in Germany.”
Significant Turnout Reflects Diaspora’s Sensitivity
On just the first day, hundreds of people queued to participate in the signature campaign. According to Fidan, this robust participation clearly reflects the deep concern among Turkish citizens living abroad about developments in their homeland.
She emphasized:
“This intense participation showed once again how sensitive Turkish citizens living abroad are to the developments in Turkey.”
Calls for Early Elections and Democracy
Fidan also highlighted that campaign participants strongly voiced their demands for early elections and the defense of democratic values. She explained:
“The anti-democratic practices in our country deeply affect not only those in Turkey but also us citizens living abroad. We want early elections, and we believe that our presidential candidate Ekrem İmamoğlu should be free.”
