CHP’s Murat Emir Challenges Investigation into Boycott Calls, Recalls Erdoğan’s 2008 Boycott Statement

Following the April 2 boycott campaign, initiated by Turkish citizens on social media and later supported by CHP leader Özgür Özel, the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office has opened an investigation into the boycott organizers. The authorities allege that the boycott calls constituted “inciting hatred, discrimination, and hostility” among the public.

Responding firmly to this investigation, CHP Group Deputy Chairman and Ankara MP Murat Emir criticized the prosecutor's office on social media, highlighting a previous instance involving President Erdoğan:

“Those who cancel 35 years of diplomas, those who love retrospective investigations... If calling for a boycott is a crime, launch an official investigation into Erdoğan's call for a boycott in 2008 so that we can see how many ounces your lungs are!”

Emir’s pointed reference recalls President Erdoğan’s own boycott statement in 2008, effectively questioning the impartiality and consistency of judicial authorities.

This development underscores ongoing tensions between Turkey's ruling authorities and the main opposition, with Emir directly challenging prosecutors to demonstrate impartiality by applying standards equally.
