Erdoğan Criticizes U.S. Policy on Gaza

Turkish Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan ad

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has condemned the United States' approach to the Gaza crisis, warning that its stance is misguided and could further inflame tensions in the region.

"An approach that ignores the historical and cultural dynamics of this region should be reconsidered. Turning a blind eye to the suffering here will not benefit the United States," Erdoğan told reporters on Feb. 13 during his return flight from a tour of South Asia.

His remarks came amid ongoing efforts to establish a permanent ceasefire between Israel and Palestinian factions, as the situation in Gaza remains precarious.

"The United States is making a grave miscalculation regarding our region," Erdoğan asserted. "Relying on Zionist propaganda and attempting to manipulate regional dynamics will only deepen existing wounds. This is a dangerous path."

Erdoğan also criticized U.S. support for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, warning that it would only fuel more violence.

"This will not bring the long-awaited peace. On the contrary, it will intensify conflicts and increase bloodshed and suffering," he said. "We expect President [Donald] Trump to honor his pre-election commitments and take steps toward peace rather than war."

Describing the situation in Gaza as "highly sensitive and complex," Erdoğan emphasized the importance of an equitable approach to protecting Palestinian rights and achieving a just resolution.

"For an end to the genocide in Gaza and the establishment of lasting peace, all nations must act collectively and with reason," he urged.

The Turkish leader also denounced Trump’s reported proposal for the U.S. to take control of Gaza and relocate its residents.

"This process cannot proceed with plans that involve the forced expulsion of Gazans—an agenda that serves the murderous ambitions of Netanyahu," Erdoğan stated. "True peace can only be achieved through justice and equality, where the rights of all parties are recognized."

Additionally, Erdoğan criticized Muslim-majority countries for their lack of a unified response to the crisis.

"Gaza remains an open wound in our hearts, yet the Islamic world has failed to take a united stance," he said. "We must confront our shortcomings, shed our burdens, and take meaningful action."
