Thousands of citizens at Saraçhane to protest Imamoğlu’s detention

The protests against Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu's first having his diploma canceled and then being detained in the morning hours along with 105 people continue are continuing. Following Özgür Özel's call for all Istanbulites to gather in front of Saraçhane at 20.30, thousands of people marched from various parts of Istanbul towards the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality building. Thousands of people from different parts of the city gathered at the square in front of the Metropolitan Municipality building at the time of the call for the rally, which was also called by different political parties and organizations. CHP called for a democracy meeting at Saraçhane Square after Ekrem İmamoğlu, President of the Union of Municipalities of Turkey (UMT) and Mayor of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IBB), was detained along with 106 other people in the morning. Citizens went to Saraçhane hours before the meeting time and started protesting. Thousands of people flocked to the square with Turkish flags and banners, chanting slogans such as "No salvation, all together or none of us", "Tayyip in, Ekrem out", "The day will come, the day will turn, AKP will answer to the people". Citizens took place in the area with banners such as "If you shut up today, they will silence you tomorrow" and "We will make you president". Addressing the citizens in the area, CHP's Gökhan Günaydın said, "Know that this process will not be a normal process for any of us. We will make those who canceled İmamoğlu's diploma, those who detained him, and those who covet the people's municipalities regret what they did!" Republican People's Party (CHP) Chairman Özgür Özel met with IYI Party Chairman Müsavat Dervişoğlu at Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality.
