A 25-member team of Turkish aviation experts has begun work to renovate Damascus International Airport, which sustained severe damage during Syria’s 13-year-long civil war, Turkish Transport and Infrastructure Minister Abdulkadir Uraloğlu announced on Sunday.

“Our team, consisting of personnel from the General Directorate of State Airports Authority, has been deployed to restore Damascus Airport, which was severely damaged and became inoperable during the war,” Uraloğlu stated.

Technical Team Crosses into Syria with Essential Equipment

The team entered Syria through the Cilvegözü Border Gate in Turkey’s Hatay province on February 7, carrying essential supplies for the airport’s reconstruction.

"To ensure safe flight operations at the airport and within Syrian airspace, we have dispatched 113 vehicles, devices, and systems via six trucks. Our team is not only installing the necessary equipment but will also complete the training of the airport's personnel," Uraloğlu explained.

The technical experts specialize in airfield operations, navigation systems, and security infrastructure, ensuring the airport's revival aligns with international aviation standards.

Reviving Syria’s Air Connectivity

The restoration of Damascus International Airport marks a significant step in efforts to rebuild Syria’s aviation sector after years of conflict. The project also underscores Turkey’s role in regional reconstruction efforts and its influence in post-war Syria’s infrastructure development.
