Turkish Military Eliminates 31 PKK Terrorists in Iraq and Syria

Ankara continues its counterterrorism campaign, reporting the elimination of 31 PKK-affiliated militants in Iraq and Syria last week, bringing the total to 408 since January 1, 2025, according to Defense Ministry Spokesperson Zeki Aktürk.
Turkey’s Counterterrorism Strategy Intensifies
Aktürk detailed Turkey’s dynamic and proactive defense measures, including seizing weapons and supplies in the Claw-Lock Operation zone. The PKK, largely eradicated domestically, has shifted operations to northern Iraq, where Turkey has maintained military bases and airstrike campaigns for over 25 years.
Five PKK terrorists surrendered last week, while border security measures intensified, preventing over 1,500 illegal crossings.
Turkey’s Stance on Terrorism and Syrian Developments
Turkey’s ruling coalition, including MHP leader Devlet Bahçeli, continues to push the "Terror-Free Türkiye" initiative, which demands PKK disarmament before any potential future roadmap. Ankara also remains wary of the YPG’s role in Syria’s army, reiterating that it must disarm and integrate under Syria’s Defense Ministry without forming a separate structure.
