Street protests sparked by the detention of Istanbul Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu have now expanded into boycott campaigns. University students announced an economic boycott starting April 2nd, declaring, "We are using our economic power; we are pausing consumption for one day after the holiday."

Following the arrest and detention of CHP’s presidential candidate and Istanbul Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, CHP Chairman Özgür Özel had called for a boycott during a democracy vigil held at Saraçhane. University students are now amplifying this call.

On social media, students are rallying support for an 'economic boycott' scheduled for April 2nd, after the Ramadan holiday.

In their social media statements, students emphasized, "We are using our economic power; we are pausing consumption for one day after the holiday," urging everyone to abstain from purchasing anything on April 2nd.

Calls for participation continue to spread across various universities—from Boğaziçi to Middle East Technical University (METU)—with student clubs, representatives, and youth organizations actively promoting the boycott through social media posts.
