Eurofighter Sale Requires Multinational Approval

The Eurofighter Typhoon, a joint production of Germany, Spain, Italy, and the UK, requires approval from all four partner nations for any export deal to proceed.

Turkey’s interest in acquiring the multi-role combat jets gained momentum in late 2024, particularly after Germany took steps to explore the sale—a shift from its earlier hesitance.

In December 2024, two UK Royal Air Force Eurofighter jets landed at a Turkish military base in Ankara, where Turkish authorities inspected the aircraft. On March 13, UK Defense Minister John Healey met with Turkish Defense Minister Yaşar Güler in Ankara to discuss a range of defense and security issues, with a focus on:

Amid rising military buildup efforts in Europe, fueled by concerns over NATO's long-term commitment following remarks by U.S. President Donald Trump, Turkey has positioned itself as a key strategic player.

As NATO’s second-largest military power and a non-EU nation, Turkey is emerging as a significant contributor to European security and regional stability.
