Azerbaijani President İlham Aliyev has reaffirmed Azerbaijan’s unwavering support for Türkiye’s increasing influence in Syria and the broader Middle East, emphasizing the deep alignment of interests between the two nations.
“Türkiye’s Success Is Our Success”
“What benefits Türkiye also serves our interests. Our security, our interests, and our future are interconnected. Türkiye’s strong presence in the evolving Middle East is the driving force behind a new reality in the region. We stand firmly alongside Türkiye,” Aliyev stated during a Jan. 7 interview with local media.
Aliyev highlighted the unparalleled strength of the Azerbaijan-Türkiye alliance, calling it unmatched by any bilateral partnership globally.
Transformative Developments in Syria
Expressing satisfaction with the changes in Syria following the December 2024 ouster of Bashar al-Assad, Aliyev reiterated Azerbaijan’s commitment to supporting Türkiye in its regional initiatives.
“With Türkiye’s assistance, we dispatched our first humanitarian aid convoy to Syria. This effort was only possible thanks to Türkiye’s logistical support. Additionally, the deployment of our Foreign Ministry delegation to Syria was facilitated by Ankara. Our focus is to contribute to eradicating terrorism, especially along Türkiye’s borders,” Aliyev stated, referencing the PKK/YPG threat.
Tangible Gains in Counterterrorism
Aliyev praised Türkiye’s decisive actions against terrorism, noting that the country has long endured attacks by the PKK. “Türkiye is not just making demands for eliminating terror beyond its borders but achieving real results,” he said.

Aliyev emphasized the role of Azerbaijan-Türkiye cooperation in promoting regional stability, calling the partnership a cornerstone of progress in addressing security challenges and fostering peace in the Middle East.
