Instagram shut down in Turkey: A display of digital totalitarianism

Minister of Transport Uraloğlu said in a statement regarding the blocking of access to Instagram: “We warned Instagram within the scope of catalogue crime, we closed it when there was no response. They did not take into account our social sensitivities. Instagram access is opened as soon as they comply with the law.”

 

Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu made a press statement at Alanya – Gazipaşa Road Gökçebelen Tunnel. Uraloğlu, who also answered the questions of journalists, spoke about the access restriction imposed on Instagram this morning.

Uraloğlu stated that the restriction was within the framework of catalogue crimes and said, “We imposed an access barrier because it did not comply with the rules.” The Minister of Transport said, “They did not take into account our social sensitivities. Instagram access opens as soon as they comply with the law. We warned them, but they did not respond,” he said.
