Turkish consumer confidence rose in September, partially reversing two months of declines. The increase was led by householders’ outlook toward the future economic situation in the country on the back of relaxed COVID-19 measures.
Sentiment among householders improved to 79.7 points this month from 78.2 in August, the Turkish Statistical Institute reported on Wednesday. Consumer confidence stood at 82 points in September last year.
The consumer confidence index averages in the first halves of 2016, 2017 and 2018 are 92, 91 and 92, respectively. The index began its slide in 2H18 as Turkey drifted towards its August currency crisis. The recovery since then has been limited as TL lost almost 100% of its value against the USD.
The financial situation of household index at present compared to the past 12 months increased by 2.2% from 61.3 in August to 62.6 in September.
The financial situation expectation of household index in the next 12 months which was 78.6 in August increased by 0.5% and became 79.0 in September.
The general economic situation expectation index in the next 12 months increased by 5.3% from 75.3 in August to 79.3 in September.
Assessment on spending money on durable goods index over next 12 months compared to the past 12 months remained at the same level 97.7 in September.
