Retail sales in Türkiye surged by 16.4% in November 2024 compared to the same month the previous year, while month-over-month growth reached 1.9%, according to data from the Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat).
Key sectors also reported notable increases, with trade sales up 8.7% year-over-year and wholesale trade sales rising 5.3%. Among retail categories, food-drink-tobacco sales climbed by 11.1%, and nonfood sales experienced a robust 21.9% increase. Automotive fuel sales recorded a marginal rise of 0.1%.
Within nonfood items, sales of computers, books, and telecommunications equipment soared by 40.9%, while sales of electronics and furniture rose by 9.8%. Textiles, clothing, and footwear sales increased by 6.7%, and medical goods and cosmetics gained 15.4%. Online and mail-order sales also grew 14.1% year-over-year.
On a monthly basis, retail sales increased by 1.9%, trade sales by 0.9%, and wholesale sales by 0.6%.
Additionally, TurkStat reported a 42.4% annual rise in the total turnover index, encompassing industry, construction, trade, and services sectors. Subcategories saw significant annual growth: construction turnover jumped 55.9%, services surged 53.3%, trade rose 44.6%, and industry increased 30.1%.
Monthly total turnover also rebounded with a 2.6% increase in November, reversing October’s 1.3% decline. Trade turnover climbed 3.1%, services rose 2.1%, industry gained 2.3%, and construction edged up 0.9%.
