Turkish parliament forms commission to investigate violence and child abuse

A parliamentary committee in the Turkish parliament will investigate cases of violence, neglect and abuse of children, while at the same time proposing measures for their protection. This decision was adopted with the unanimity of all political parties represented in the Majlis, reports the T24 website, quoted by BTA.

The commission will be composed of 22 deputies and will work for three months, and its main task will be to propose effective measures to protect children from violence and to guarantee their physical and mental health.

The Deputy Speaker of the Parliament, Mrs. Karaca Beecher, expressed hope that through the activities of the commission, solutions will be found to the serious problems that worry Turkish society. Recently, Turkey has been rocked by a number of cases of child abuse and murder, with the case of 8-year-old Narin in a village in Diyarbekir, which remained unsolved, particularly shocking.

According to data from the Turkish human rights organization “Fisa”, in the last two years 133 children have lost their lives as a result of domestic violence or under suspicious circumstances. The commission was created on the eve of the International Day of the Girl, which is celebrated today, October 11, and aims to prevent discrimination against girls and protect their access to human rights.
