Türkiye is eager to partner with Finland on contracting and technology projects, as well as joint initiatives in third countries, Turkish Trade Minister Ömer Bolat stated on Wednesday.
Bolat met with Finnish Trade Minister Ville Tavio in Helsinki for the 2nd Term Meeting of the Türkiye-Finland Joint Economic and Trade Committee. The discussions centered on enhancing bilateral trade and investment opportunities.
“Türkiye is keen to collaborate with Finland in the fields of contracting and technology, as well as to work together on contracting and infrastructure projects in third countries,” Bolat shared on X.
Customs Union Update Key to Stronger EU Relations
Bolat emphasized the importance of updating the Customs Union to strengthen Türkiye’s economic ties with the European Union and its member states. He highlighted that modernizing the 1995 Customs Union would help diversify global economic partnerships and bolster trade cooperation.
“We attach great importance to diversifying our cooperation with the European Union and its member states, which are among our most significant trade partners. In this context, we believe that updating the Customs Union will make a valuable contribution to our global partnerships,” he said.
Türkiye has long advocated for revisions to the Customs Union, arguing that an updated framework would bring mutual benefits for both Türkiye and the EU.
Commitment to Expanding Bilateral Trade
The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to increasing reciprocal investments and ensuring a balanced expansion of trade between Türkiye and Finland.
